MY MILKY WAY

2025

Silk, breast milk

138 x 132 cm

The different phases of a woman's life are present simultaneously in this work. The various pieces in the series are made of delicate, immaculate white, highly fragile silk materials, which I painted with breast milk. The encounter between these two materials causes drastic damage, an almost "vandalistic" act. Yet I sought a kind of unique aesthetic in this "destruction."

I originally purchased each of the textiles used for wedding dresses. Then, for various reasons, they were not all used, and as my life and activities changed, so did their function.

The stains leave a permanent mark, just like the experience of having a child. The change is irreversible, both physically and emotionally.

I have developed a repetitive pattern of stains that refers to the repetitive nature of breastfeeding, yet each stain is different with its own unique pattern.

These beauties are not free from the profane, physical world. They often bring with them irreversible destruction and devastation. At the same time, they form lasting, incomparably beautiful patterns in the path of our lives, which are worth viewing from a distance at times—if we can perceive the beneficial light falling on the spots.
