FACES

2025

Canvas, yarn

50 x 45 cm

My daughter's very first figurative drawings reflect the most sincere childlike naivety.

She made them very early, at the age of two, which is why their expressive, characterful facial expressions immediately caught my eye. They are funny, caricaturistic and striking at the same time, and while watching her make them, I witnessed the focused attention and utmost concentration that only children are capable of.

They perfectly reflect the feeling of being a small child: carefree lightness, humor, naivety, then immeasurable seriousness and rapid changes of absurd twists and turns.

With my work, I wanted to commemorate this never-to-return era.

The countless drawings, each lasting only a few minutes, were turned into an embroidery installation that took several hours to complete, in which I used my own medium to capture the early days of my motherhood.
