CALLIGRAPHY STRUCTURES
2020.
decorative rubber, cardboard
35cm x 35 cm/series of 8 pieces
This work was inspired by the art of calligraphy. Although the genre is traditionally two-dimensional, I translated the essence of the activity into three-dimensional structure formation.
Similar to calligraphy, I arranged identical elements at equal distances from each other, but my elements were three-dimensional, so the finished composition also extends beyond the plane.
During my calligraphy studies, I often had to fill a page with a single letter, and no matter how hard I tried, my letters were never perfectly identical. This randomness can also be found in this work, but overall I have created repetitive, harmonious structural compositions. The series begins with a colorful, irregular, open composition, followed gradually by pieces in increasingly lighter colors through gray, and finally ending with pure white pieces that operate solely on the light-shadow contrasts created by structural play.
